General questions

What a composite is, and who it's for.

What is a class composite?

A class composite is a professionally arranged display of individual portraits for every student and teacher in a classroom, laid out in a grid. Unlike a group photo, where someone is always blinking, a composite combines individual portraits digitally so every face is clearly visible, evenly sized, and caught at its best moment.

Why are composites better than group photos?

Composites solve the recurring problems with a single group shot. Absent students can be added later instead of ruining the whole photo, every face comes out the same size and clearly visible, each child is captured individually at their best moment, and names can run under every portrait so parents can identify their kid.

Who is SchoolComposite for?

School photographers, whether that's a solo operator covering a handful of schools or a studio running dozens of accounts. If you build class composites and want the manual work out of the process, it's built for you.

How it works

The workflow, in detail.

How does automatic face detection work?

The software analyzes each uploaded portrait for facial features, then sizes and positions every head for consistency across the composite. It handles differences in original photo size, crop, and orientation on its own, so you aren't resizing images by hand in Photoshop.

How long does a composite take to build?

Most composites finish in under 10 minutes, against 30 to 90 minutes of manual work in traditional software. Upload your photos, let the software handle alignment, apply your template, adjust anything you want by hand, then download the print-ready file.

Can I add absent students later?

Yes. Upload the makeup photo whenever you get it and regenerate the composite, no reshoot of the whole class required. It's one of the main advantages composites have over a single group photo.

Can I customize the layout and templates?

Yes. Templates take school logos, colors, headers, and layout changes, and you can also adjust spacing, row arrangement, and individual portrait position where needed.

Technical questions

File formats, sizes, and limits.

What file formats do you support?

Upload JPEG, PNG, or TIFF. Export as high-resolution 300 DPI JPEG or TIFF, ready for any professional print lab.

What composite sizes are available?

All standard print sizes: 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 20x24, and 24x36 inches, plus custom sizes on request.

How many students fit on one composite?

Templates handle classes from 10 to 15 students up to 35 or more. Layout and sizing adjust automatically to the roster count to keep every face clearly visible.

Is there a limit on how many composites I can create?

It depends on your plan. Starter includes 50 composites a month, and Professional and Studio raise that ceiling. See the pricing page for current limits.
